When to go

Best time to visit New Zealand

New Zealand seasons are defined less by rain vs dry and more by temperature, wind, and swell.

Best overall window

December - April

Warmest water and longest days. Northland often sits around 18°C to 23°C. More stable highpressure weather windows.

Outside that window

Colder water 8°C to 16°C and more frequent wind events above 30 km/h. The north can be clearer, but offshore days are less reliable.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.
