Scuba

What It Feels Like

Solomon Islands is a scuba destination for divers who want expedition texture without giving up operator support. Honiara and Tulagi deliver WWII wrecks, some shallow enough for easy profiles and others reserved for technical teams. Munda, Gizo and Uepi shift the focus to walls, reef passages, shark points, gorgonian fans and aircraft wrecks. Liveaboards add the Russell Islands, Mary Island, Florida Islands and Marovo Lagoon, linking sites that are awkward from shore. Visibility varies after rain, but clear-water days can reach 25 m to 40 m in the Western Province and on offshore reefs.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Uepi and Marovo Lagoon

Barrierreef access, housereef snorkeling, grey reef sharks, pass dives and quiet ecoresort logistics in one smallisland package.

Advanced

  • Honiara and Iron Bottom Sound

Best first module for WWII history, capital logistics and shoreaccess wrecks before continuing to Western Province or a liveaboard.

  • Munda and Roviana Lagoon

Day boats reach walls, aircraft wrecks, shark sites, shallow snorkel reefs and cultural stops from a practical Western Province base.

  • Russell Islands and Mary Island

Cavern light, jungle cuts, schooling fish and remote reef walls make this the classic expeditionstyle Solomon Islands sequence.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Choose your route by logistics first. Honiara is easiest for a short wreck add-on. Munda is the best land-based hub for daily adventure variety. Uepi is better for resort-based divers and non-diver partners. Liveaboards are best for photographers and experienced divers who want the Russell Islands, Mary Island, Florida Islands and Marovo in one itinerary. Build in at least one no-fly day after diving and one buffer day before international departure.

Conditions Fallback

  • If remote dive medicine shifts, confirm site selection with your operator before departure.

Avoid

  • Do not ignore remote dive medicine advisories from local operators.
