Overview

Remote Coral Triangle reefs, WWII wrecks and kastom-managed lagoons

Solomon Islands is one of the Pacific's great adventure dive countries: warm water, sparse crowds, WWII wrecks, sharky passages, huge gorgonians, coral gardens and village-managed reefs. The core water regions are Honiara and Iron Bottom Sound, Tulagi and the Florida Islands, the Russell Islands, Munda and Roviana Lagoon, Gizo and Western Province, and Uepi and Marovo Lagoon. Expect cash-heavy logistics, small planes, boat transfers, customary access fees and operators who adjust plans around wind, tides, rain and local permissions. The drier May to October season is the easiest travel window, but diving can work year-round with buffers.

What Makes It Special

  • Wrecks with real history

Ships, aircraft, submarines and landing craft from the Guadalcanal and New Georgia campaigns now act as reefs, especially around Honiara, Tulagi, Munda and Gizo.

  • Coral Triangle biodiversity

Warm water around 27Β°C to 30Β°C supports hard-coral gardens, soft corals, sea fans, reef sharks, turtles, rays, macro life and dense schooling fish.

  • Remote but flexible formats

Choose Honiara day diving, Western Province resorts, Munda day boats, Uepi eco-resort rhythm, Tetepare conservation stays or a full liveaboard circuit.

  • Community-linked conservation

Customary marine tenure, kastom fees, Arnavon turtle protection, Tetepare's no-take zone and locally managed marine areas make responsible access part of the experience.
