When to go

Best time to visit Cape Town

Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate: warm, dry and windy summers from about November to March, and cooler, wetter winters from June to August.

Best overall window

Oct - May for weather

Warm, mostly dry days with mean temps around 21°C, long daylight hours and frequent southeasterly winds. Expect lively afternoons but plenty of beach and hiking weather.

Outside that window

Coolest, wettest months with frequent cold fronts, heavy rain and big swell, but lush fynbos and strong chances for whale sightings on clear days.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.
