Limestone walls, pine-framed coves, and fast boat access from Hvar Town
Overview
Hvar pairs a sophisticated island base with compact day-boat access to the Pakleni Islands. Local operators describe more than fifteen nearby sites, many only 10 to 20 minutes from Hvar Town, ranging from the shallow slope at Baba Reef to current-exposed walls and chimneys at Campanella, Poseidon Pillar, and Anchor Wall.
This is a local_only destination: stay ashore, dive or snorkel by local boat, and use ferries or catamarans to reach Hvar. June and September usually offer the cleanest balance of active schedules, warm water, and manageable crowds. July and August bring the warmest swimming but also heat, sold-out transport, and heavier boat traffic.
The Pakleni land archipelago is a protected significant landscape, while adjacent sea is Natura 2000 and is in a 2026 to 2031 process toward stronger marine protection. It is not currently accurate to market the whole area as an established fee-charging marine park.

View On MapA signature chimney rises from roughly {{ 30 | distance:m }} to {{ 11 | distance:m }}, with ledges that shelter scorpionfish, morays, lobster, conger eels, and forkbeard.
A shallow Pakleni slope gives a useful reference for limestone, sponge, gorgonian, and seagrass habitat.
A deeper wall profile centers on an anchor around {{ 18 | distance:m }} and descends through the {{ 30 | distance:m }} range.
Top species linked to approved dive spots in Hvar and the Pakleni Islands.
Many Pakleni sites sit 10 to 20 minutes from Hvar Town, allowing efficient two-dive outings without committing the whole day.
Shallow Baba Reef profiles can serve newer divers, while Campanella and Anchor Wall reward advanced current and depth skills.
Walls, chimneys, ledges, small caves, gorgonians, seagrass, and a historic wreck create more structural variety than a single reef format.
Hvar Town heritage, the UNESCO Stari Grad Plain, Pakleni coves, food, cycling, kayaking, and festival nights make surface intervals part of the destination rather than downtime.
