What It Feels Like

Koh Phi Phi is one of the easiest ways to sample Andaman Sea diving without committing to a liveaboard. Most sites are short boat rides from Tonsai, and you can combine walls, pinnacles, and reef slopes in the same day. Expect warm water around 28°C, visibility that commonly ranges from 10 m to 30 m depending on season, and a mix of macro life plus big-school energy on exposed sites. The Bida Islands (Bida Nok and Bida Nai) are the headline dives, while Palong Wall and Hin Klang round out a classic Phi Phi logbook.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Bida Nok

A Phi Phi classic with a horseshoeshaped reef, soft corals, and frequent turtle encounters.

  • Bida Nai

A sloping reef and wall system with schools of snapper and glassfish in sheltered pockets.

  • Palong Wall

A steep limestone wall that often delivers the best fish density close to Phi Phi Don.

Level Up

  • Loh Samah Bay (outer reef)

Shallow coral gardens and sandy patches that suit check dives and underwater photography, typically {{ 5 | distance:m }} to {{ 18 | distance:m }}.

  • Maya Corner

A corner outside the heavily managed Maya Bay beach area where currents can concentrate fish.

  • Bamboo Island (Koh Phai) Reef

A calmer coralgarden style dive that works well for beginners and refreshers.

Advanced

  • Hin Klang

A midwater pinnacle known for big schools and occasional current.

  • Viking Cave Area

Dramatic limestone scenery with shallow hardcorals and excellent ambient light for wideangle shots.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • How to book
  • Stay on Phi Phi Don to maximize morning departures, then book 2 to 3 dive days through a local operator (many also run snorkeling trips for non-divers).
  • Ask whether your trip price includes the national park fee. Many operators collect it in cash on the boat.
  • Conditions and routing
  • In rougher months, operators may focus on more sheltered sites or shorten crossings.

Conditions Fallback

  • If you want fewer boats on the reef, request early departures or ask about trips that avoid the most popular bays.
  • Follow no-touch and no-take rules. Do not stand on coral, do not chase wildlife, and use mooring buoys only.

Avoid
