Overview

Mediterranean walls, caves, wrecks and protected seagrass within easy reach of Palma

Mallorca and Cabrera make one of the Mediterranean's easiest mixed-activity dive trips: fly into Palma, base on Mallorca, then choose local shore dives, short day boats, marine reserve trips or a more regulated Cabrera excursion. Expect limestone walls, caverns, Posidonia seagrass, grouper, moray eels, octopus, barracuda, rays and wrecks in clear blue water. The best overall window is May to October, with May to June and September to October giving the easiest blend of warm water, reliable boat schedules and fewer peak-summer crowds. Cabrera adds a national park layer: navigation, mooring and scuba are permit-controlled, and land services are minimal. That makes it feel more remote than its map distance suggests, while Mallorca keeps logistics simple for non-divers, families and training days.

What Makes It Special

  • Protected Mediterranean habitat

Cabrera National Park and Mallorca's marine reserves protect Posidonia meadows, rocky reefs, fish nurseries and seabird habitat. The rules are not decoration: permits, no-anchor areas, special protection zones and operator authorizations shape the trip.

  • Easy access, varied diving

Palma de Mallorca Airport keeps travel simple, and dive centers cluster near Palma Bay, the southwest, the east coast and northern bays. You can combine beginner coves, wrecks, walls, caves and reserve trips without changing islands.

  • Strong non-diver appeal

Mallorca is not just a dive base. Palma's old town, Serra de Tramuntana, Drach Caves, wineries, coastal villages and sandy beaches make it easy to build a shared itinerary for divers and non-divers.

  • Cabrera feels remote but reachable

Authorized boats from Colonia de Sant Jordi make Cabrera possible as a long day trip, while the park's limited services, buoy rules and low-impact visitor model keep the experience from feeling like a standard resort excursion.
