Overview
Marsa Alam gives you two headline experiences in one trip. Abu Dabbab is the easy-access side of the destination, with shallow reef, seagrass, turtles, and the occasional dugong in a bay that works for snorkelers, new divers, photographers, and relaxed training days. Elphinstone Reef is the opposite: an offshore wall and plateau system for current-aware divers looking for strong coral, bluewater exposure, and seasonal shark action. Between them sit house reefs, protected bays, Port Ghalib logistics, and the desert-and-sea landscapes of Wadi El Gemal, making Marsa Alam one of the Red Sea's most versatile bases.
Abu Dabbab combines shallow reef and seagrass, making turtles realistic for snorkelers and entry-level divers.
Elphinstone Reef delivers walls, plateaus, current, and seasonal shark encounters for skilled day-boat divers.
Resort house reefs around Sha'ab Marsa Alam and Marsa Nakari House Reef South suit line sessions and repetition.
Marsa Alam International Airport and Port Ghalib Marina make short transfer times possible compared with longer Red Sea overland itineraries.
