What It Feels Like
South Maui makes dawn runs to Molokini easy and offers lava-tube shore dives in Makena. West Maui adds Mala Wharf’s collapsed pier ecology and short boat hops to Lanai’s Cathedrals when seas allow. Reputable outfits include Maui Dreams Dive Co in Kihei and Maui Dive Shop out of Maalaea. Expect turtles, endemic fish, and seasonal whale song on deeper dives.

Operator Checklist
- Prime conditions are early. Many boats check in before sunrise to beat trades. Book peak whale months and holidays well ahead. Follow MLCD rules at Molokini and Honolua, and carry an SMB for bluewater ascents. Mineral-only sunscreen is required in Maui County.
Conditions Fallback
- If back wall exposure shifts, confirm site selection with your operator before departure.
Avoid
- Do not ignore back wall exposure advisories from local operators.
