Overview
Villasimius is the land base for Capo Carbonara, a zoned marine protected area wrapping Sardinia's southeastern headland, Isola dei Cavoli, and Serpentara. Day boats reach granite pinnacles, gorgonian walls, archaeological anchors, an underwater statue, and the deep Relitto Egle, while guided seawatching opens shallower Posidonia and boulder habitats to snorkelers. The destination rewards mixed groups: divers can make two-tank mornings, non-divers can explore Porto Giunco, Stagno di Notteri, Fortezza Vecchia, and MAVI, then everyone reunites in Villasimius. Late May through June and September through early October offer the best balance of warm conditions, workable boat schedules, and lighter crowds. July and August are lively and warm but require early bookings, heat management, and parking plans. Winter diving remains possible with local operators, although wind and sea state can narrow the site list. Protected-area authorization, zone rules, no-solo requirements, and strict Posidonia care make an authorized local operator central to a smooth trip.
