Anniela Thila is a shallow Maldives wall dive near Joy Island.
Anniela Thila is an inside-atoll wall dive near Joy Island, with a shallow top reef that drops quickly into overhangs and small caves. The layout favors slow reef reading over long swim distances, and it is especially good for night dives. The wall and ledges are coated in sponges and leaf plate corals, with coral blocks, glassfish, nudibranchs, crabs, shrimp, and turtles in the shelter. It is a boat-only scuba site for divers comfortable with reef structure and some overhead relief.

Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Overhangs and small caves create overhead areas; use appropriate training, buoyancy control, and light/backup light for night diving.
Access Restrictions
Boat-only access; plan with the operator and treat the site as a guided reef dive rather than an independent shore entry.
Legal Notes
Maldives recreational dives are capped at 30 m, which matches the deep end of this site.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
A wall dive starting shallow (around 4 m) and descending to roughly 25–30 m, with overhangs and small caves.
Freediving
Freediving is only a secondary fit here; the shallow top reef may work for very experienced breath-hold divers, but the wall and overhangs are built for scuba.
Snorkeling
Snorkeling is limited to the shallow top reef on calm days. Most of the layout drops too quickly for a casual snorkel.
