Usually boat-led from Portovenere; best in calm weather, with an easy wall profile and macro subjects close to the rock.
About Grotta Byron
Grotta Byron is the sheltered cave-and-wall dive tucked just past Portovenere's canal, beneath the San Pietro headland and old fortifications. The route follows the rock face through cracks, small overhangs, and a simple wall profile that stays close to the cove. It is a straightforward dive in settled sea, with the best detail in the rock pockets and sand edge where macro life gathers. The site suits relaxed guided dives and training sessions more than a long exploratory swim.
