Tokara Islands is a remote boat-diving chain in Kagoshima Prefecture between Yakushima and Amami Oshima. Access is the main commitment: reach the islands by village-run ferry, then plan on short boat runs to exposed offshore points rather than easy shore entries. The chain is prized for drift diving, dense pelagic action, manta and hammerhead encounters, and volcanic-island terrain, including a northern manta point.
