About Doctors Cove

Doctor's Cove is a sheltered Emerald Bay dive built around a pebbled beach entry, shallow kelp, patch reefs, and a sandy cove that opens toward Indian Rock. It is one of the more approachable Catalina dives for new divers because the cove is calmer and more protected than many exposed island sites, while still offering classic Southern California kelp-forest scenery. Underwater the site combines easy in-cove exploration with enough variety to keep experienced divers interested, including bat rays and leopard sharks on the sand, garibaldi and bass in the reef, morays and lobster in cracks, and a small sunken sailboat near the mouth of the cove. The result is a forgiving Catalina shore dive that works for training, night diving, and relaxed reef laps when conditions are settled.
