About Old Garden Beach

Old Garden Beach is a sandy shore dive with a short walk from parking to the water and a nearshore boulder line that gives the site its shape. The dive stays friendly in the shallows, but the interesting structure sits farther out, so it is better treated as a relaxed New England shore dive than a quick swim. Marine life is the draw: lobsters, cod, crabs, dogfish, sea ravens, flounder, and the occasional ocean sunfish.

Scuba Diving

Max depth is about 45–50 ft, with the main features being boulders just offshore from the sandy beach.

Freediving

Snorkeling

Snorkeling can work in the shallows on calmer days, but the better structure sits around the boulder line and is more rewarding with scuba.
