About US Coast Guard Boat 56022

This site is a 56-foot U.S. Coast Guard cable boat that sank during a storm on December 1, 1977 while traveling from Oswego to Niagara and approaching Nine Mile Point on Lake Ontario. The wreck was later found by shipwreck explorers Jim Kennard and Dan Scoville. The hull is heavily encrusted with zebra mussels, reaching about two inches thick in places. Lake Bass have been observed congregating around the wreck.
