Experienced divers should time Halifax Point to high slack water and use the designated shore entry; strong currents and boat traffic make it a planning-first site.

About Halifax Point

Halifax Point is a shore-access dive on the Fly Point-Halifax Park reserve, where a marked entry leads to rocky ledges, sponge gardens, kelp, and fish-rich slopes. It suits experienced divers who can manage strong tidal flow and boat traffic, with the best runs timed to high slack water. Expect a compact headland profile, vivid growth on the ledges, and plenty of life when conditions line up.

Halifax Point Planning Details

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.

Reported Depth

20m - 26m

Depth Note

“Twin Bommies” is noted at 20 m; maximum depth is approximately 26 m.

Best Season

Summer, when juvenile tropical fish are noted in the reserve.

Typical Conditions

High slack water is the preferred window. The site becomes much less forgiving outside that timing, and low-slack visibility is typically poor.

Safety & Access At Halifax Point

Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.

Safety Notes

Plan the dive around an incoming tide to reach slack high tide as recommended.

Access Restrictions

Use the designated shore entry and exit area; the site is tide-sensitive and boats pass above the dive line, so do not surface far from shore.

Legal Notes

The aquatic reserve is a protected sanctuary zone where fishing and collection of marine organisms, including shells, are banned.

Local Intel For Halifax Point

Community notes to help plan your visit.

Scuba

A slack-water shore dive for experienced divers who can manage a strong tidal run and keep a disciplined ascent on the marked entry side.

Snorkel

Snorkelling is possible in the protected reserve, but only the calmest slack-water windows are suitable because the site is tide-sensitive.
