Port Campbell Jetty

Easy Port Campbell jetty dive with pylons, anemones, and rays.

Jetty or beach entry is straightforward, but low swell and southerly winds are the main go/no-go filters because the pier is still a working port.

About Port Campbell Jetty

Port Campbell Jetty is a shore-access pier dive on the eastern side of Port Campbell Bay, with an easy route off the jetty or from the beach and a shallow reef line beneath the pylons. The jetty structure and nearby sand hold anemones, juvenile fish, rays, and other shelter-loving life, while the bay itself is calmer than the exposed coast around it. It is still tide- and swell-sensitive, and the site can turn surgey fast when the Southern Ocean builds. Treat it as a low-swell, safety-aware day dive rather than a guaranteed casual swim.

Port Campbell Jetty Planning Details

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.

Reported Depth

2m - 9m

Depth Note

Very shallow pier-and-beach site, with the jetty life concentrated under the pylons and along the shore-to-pier line.

Best Season

Calm-weather windows are best; the site is most usable when swell is low and winds are off the south.

Typical Conditions

Very easy when the bay is calm, but surge and swell can make the jetty and beach-to-pier route awkward in a hurry.

Safety & Access At Port Campbell Jetty

Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.

Key Hazards

Boat trafficEntanglement riskSurgeWaves

Safety Notes

Stay clear of coffs and fishing gear under or near the jetty, keep a flag and float up, and skip the site when swell or southerly wind is building.

Access Restrictions

Best on low swell with any wind except southerly. Avoid the site when the Southern Ocean is up because the jetty area gets surgey fast.

Legal Notes

Do not interfere with fishing coffs or gear around the working jetty.

Local Intel For Port Campbell Jetty

Community notes to help plan your visit.

Scuba

A simple shore or pier dive for calm days, with the pylons and jetty structure carrying most of the life.

Freedive

A calm-day freedive or snorkel can work around the shallow jetty structure, but traffic and surge make it a day-by-day call.

Snorkel

Worth considering on calm days because the site is shallow and the pylons hold plenty of life.
