Purple Rain is a boat-access drift reef near Grand Anse, built around a sloping coral ridge where Creole wrasse gather in dense purple clouds. The reef mixes hard and soft coral, sponges and black coral with plenty of reef fish, so the best dives are slow, buoyancy-conscious runs that watch for turtles, rays and moray eels in the current. Plan it as a south-coast boat dive with conditions that can move from gentle to more noticeable flow.

Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Treat Purple Rain as a drift reef and keep the group compact. The current is often manageable, but it can strengthen enough to change the pace of the dive.
Access Restrictions
Boat access only; plan the dive with a local operator and follow the skipper's drift brief.
Legal Notes
No special legal restriction is known; follow normal local dive and marine-area rules.

Scuba Diving
Scuba is the primary fit: a drift-capable reef run where slow, controlled buoyancy lets you work the wrasse schools and coral slope.
Freediving
Not a primary freedive target; the drift profile and boat access suit scuba better than breath-hold sessions.
Snorkeling
Only the calmest days make snorkeling practical, and even then the shallow edge is the sensible limit.
