Advanced drift around an island reef with sharks.
Advanced drift around an island reef with sharks.
Use a local operator for boat access, drift timing, and current briefing.
Gili Biaha is a current-driven drift around a reefed island off Padangbai, best suited to confident divers who can hold a steady line in moving water. Hard and soft coral, including gorgonians, frame a route where barracuda, turtles, wrasses, tuna, octopus, cuttlefish, moray eels, and whitetip reef sharks may appear. Treat it as an advanced Bali drift dive rather than a casual reef swim.
Site Conditions
Safety Notes
This is an advanced drift dive; plan for current management and give whitetip reef sharks space if encountered.
Access Restrictions
Current can make casual entry inappropriate; plan on operator-led boat access.
Legal Notes
Follow operator briefings and local marine rules; do not attempt independent entry when current is running.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Advanced drift dive around a small underwater island; depths are reported roughly from 10 to 30 m.
Freediving
Not a practical freedive target because current and route management make scuba the better fit.
Snorkeling
Not a strong snorkel choice because the reef is current-driven and the useful route sits in open water.
