Mikurajima Island
Mikurajima Island is known for encounters with wild dolphins, with a resident population reported to be over 200 individuals. The dolphins are individually identified and are strictly protected. In-water encounters are done by skin diving only, and scuba diving is not permitted. One approach described is landing on the island and then reaching the dolphins by small boat; sightings are possible but not guaranteed, and touching dolphins is prohibited.
