Maavaru Thila
Twin-pinnacle Baa Atoll thila with soft coral and fish
Local operator required
Boat-only current-aware dive. Best arranged through a local Baa Atoll resort or liveaboard guide.
Boat dives usually run a deeper-to-shallower profile, with soft-coral slopes, good fish density, and current that can make the site driftier.
About Maavaru Thila
Maavaru Thila is a boat-accessed Baa Atoll thila with two distinct pinnacles: a deeper start and a shallower finish. Soft coral, anemones, and fish schools cover the slopes, with regular chances for barracuda, eagle rays, jackfish, napoleons, green turtles, and reef sharks. On moving water it becomes a guided, current-aware dive rather than a leisurely loop, so the site rewards divers who are comfortable with a one-way profile and good buoyancy.

Maavaru Thila Planning Details
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
12m - 30m
Depth Note
Public dive-site sources place the route on a deeper pinnacle and a shallower pinnacle, with the deeper start around 24m and the shallower top around 12m; broader Baa Atoll dive guidance also places the profile in the 12-30m band.
Best Season
Year-round; calmer winter and dry-season conditions usually give the clearest water, while plankton-rich months can improve big-animal chances.
Typical Conditions
Moderate current, soft-coral slopes, and a fish-rich profile; calmer days are easier, but moving water makes the site more dynamic.

Boat-only, current-aware scuba. Keep the group tight on the transition from the deeper start to the shallower finish, and reserve gas for a controlled ascent.
Access Restrictions
No shore entry; use a boat from a Baa Atoll resort or liveaboard, ideally with a guide familiar with the pinnacles and tidal flow.
Legal Notes
Inside Baa Atoll's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, so follow local protected-area guidance and dive-operator briefings.
