Boat access and park handling are easiest through a licensed Coiba operator.

Plan a boat dive with an anchor-line descent, then decide whether to stay on the shallow reef or work the deeper side as current and swell allow.

About Frijoles

Frijoles is a boat-only reef in Coiba National Park built around stacked underwater boulders and a gravelly sand bottom. Divers descend on the anchor line, then choose between a shallow reef track or a deeper side where jacks, barracudas, sharks, and turtles are common.

Local Intel For Frijoles

Community notes to help plan your visit.

Scuba

A line descent to ~10 m leads to options for a shallow reef dive or a deeper route to a reef section beyond 25 m.

Freedive

Not a primary freedive target. The site is better suited to scuba from a boat, with the anchor line doing most of the work.

Snorkel

Snorkeling is secondary here and works best as a calm-day boat stop near the reef. It is not the main way to experience the site.
