Arrifes-Claire is a shallow, shore-access reef off Albufeira that rewards slow, close-range exploration rather than long swims. The terrain is broken into ledges, holes, and mixed rock-and-sand patches, so a small light and steady buoyancy help a lot when you work the crevices. Expect a relaxed coastal dive with octopus, cuttlefish, morays, conger eels, and other small reef life doing most of the work.

Reported Depth
9m - 14m
Depth Note
Shallow reef profile with sandier patches around fourteen metres and shallower rock sections around nine metres.
Best Season
Year-round, with late spring through early autumn the most comfortable for water and shore access.
Typical Conditions
Sheltered cove conditions, low-relief rock-and-sand terrain, and calmer water pockets make this a relaxed site on good mornings.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Rocky footing, sea urchins on the lower ledges, and changing south-westerly swell are the main things to watch. Move slowly in and out.
Access Restrictions
Steep stair descent, limited parking, and a short uphill return mean this is not a flat-access site. Plan extra time for the walk down and back.
Legal Notes
Follow local beach and bathing-season rules, and respect any seasonal lifeguard or access guidance before entering.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Shallow shore reef with mixed rock, sand, ledges, and crevices; works best as a slow marine-life dive with a small light and careful buoyancy.
Freediving
Can suit confident freedivers on calm mornings, but the rocky shoreline and swell-sensitive entry mean it should be treated as a conditions-first site.
Snorkeling
One of the better snorkelling coves near Albufeira on calm mornings; bring a mask, fins, and reef shoes.
