Sali Bay East Freestyle
Sali Bay East Freestyle is a North Maluku current dive by boat.

East-end Sali Bay boat dive with a current-swept headland, strong marine life, and resort-based access.
About Sali Bay East Freestyle
Sali Bay East Freestyle is a current-driven North Maluku boat dive on the eastern headland of Sali Bay. The site is built for movement rather than hovering: an undulating seabed and the bend of the headland can create strong flow, so divers come here to drift past blacktip reef sharks, big fish, and the typical reef life of the region. It rewards confident buoyancy, good timing, and a guide who knows how the current behaves around the point.

Sali Bay East Freestyle Planning Details
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
5m - 30m

The site is a headland reef with an undulating seabed, so the working depth profile varies by line and current rather than staying fixed.
Best Season
October through May, with stronger winds and choppier seas more likely in mid-year.
Typical Conditions
Warm tropical water, a current-swept headland, and a reef profile that rewards a controlled drift rather than stationary observation.
Safety & Access At Sali Bay East Freestyle
Site conditions, restrictions, and access requirements.
Site Conditions
Strong current
Safety Notes
Plan this as a drift dive, not a stationary reef stop. Vertical flow can develop around the headland, so current control and buoyancy matter.
Access Restrictions
Boat access from the resort is the normal route, and local current planning is essential; this is not a casual shore entry.
Legal Notes
Follow resort and guide instructions for drift timing and group spacing; the site is current-sensitive rather than a free-form stop.
Local Intel For Sali Bay East Freestyle
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
An advanced drift-style boat dive best tackled with a guide who can manage the current line and headland timing.
Freediving
Not a freedive-first site; the current and vertical flow make it a scuba dive rather than a breath-hold target.
Snorkeling
Not a practical snorkel site because the current and headland exposure make staying in one place difficult.
