Roman ruins, protected Mediterranean reefs and island days above and below the surface
Where you stay shapes the trip. Compare the setting, seasons and local transport before choosing your accommodation.
Dive lava-built walls by day, watch an active volcano after dark
Lipari has the broadest mix of buses, taxis, scooters and rental vehicles, with walking practical around the port and old town. Vulcano Porto is compact, but distant beaches and viewpoints may require a taxi, scooter or excursion.
Roman mosaics, volcanic walls, and island-blue water in one ferry-linked gulf
In Naples, use metro, local rail, buses, taxis, and walking; keep luggage close in crowded transport. For Baia, a pre-booked taxi or car is easiest with dive gear, while public transport requires more connections and timetable checking.
Gorgonian walls in Scilla, sunlit reefs at Capo Vaticano, and cliff towns between dives
A rental car is the most practical choice for a three-base dive itinerary, especially with cylinders or personal gear, early departures and beach coves. Use regional trains for town-to-town movement between Tropea, Ricadi-area stations, Scilla and Reggio Calabria when traveling light.
Karst caverns, wartime wrecks, and turquoise coves beneath Sardinia's Supramonte
Cala Gonone is walkable around the harbor, waterfront, dive centers, and central accommodation. A car becomes valuable for Dorgali, supermarkets, inland restaurants, archaeology, airport transfers, trailheads, and weather-day alternatives.
Lava reefs, archaeological dives and two marine parks under Etna's skyline
A car is the most practical tool for a four-cluster itinerary, but restricted traffic zones, stairs and limited parking make it a liability inside Taormina and Ortigia. Book accommodation with clear parking, leave the vehicle outside historic centers and walk.
Mediterranean wrecks, granite walls, clear coves, and Tuscan island life
A rental car is the most flexible choice for divers, western coves, mines, and mixed-group itineraries. Roads are paved but often narrow and winding; a route that looks short can take much longer in August traffic.
Cold-water walls, freshwater wrecks, and Alpine villages around Italy's largest lake
Peschiera del Garda and Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione are the main south-lake rail stations. Rovereto connects by bus toward Riva del Garda and Torbole.
Limestone caverns, volcanic walls, and Lampione sharks at Europe's southern edge
Lampedusa is compact but hot and exposed. A small rental car or scooter gives the most flexibility for coves, trailheads, the airport, and evening dining.
Three marine parks, four coast clusters, and the vertical heart of Mediterranean diving
Use rail as the itinerary spine. Camogli, Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Levanto, Monterosso, and La Spezia are station bases, while Portofino and San Fruttuoso require bus, taxi, trail, or boat connections.
Three Tuscan seascapes, one flexible Mediterranean dive journey
A rental car is useful on the mainland for Porto Ercole, Orbetello, beaches and accommodation outside Porto Santo Stefano. Port parking can fill in summer, so reserve where possible or use rail plus the Argentario Link bus.
Two protected archipelagos, one granite-and-gorgonian diving road trip
A rental car is the most resilient choice for a split trip. It links Olbia Airport, Palau, Porto San Paolo, San Teodoro, archaeology sites, and weather-cancellation alternatives.
Limestone caves, red coral walls and protected island water on Sardinia's wild northwest edge
A rental car is the most practical way to combine Alghero, Capo Caccia, Stintino and Porto Torres, especially with equipment. Central Alghero itself is walkable and has daily airport bus service.
