Overview
Dubrovnik is a compact land-based diving destination where a city break and an Adriatic water trip can share the same itinerary. Local boats reach rocky reefs, walls, caves, and wrecks around Grebeni, Lokrum, and Kolocep, while shore sessions begin at the Mala Afrika house reef. The headline dive is Taranto (Wreck), an advanced profile whose deeper stern reaches beyond normal recreational comfort. Mixed-level groups can instead use Mala Afrika, Zaton Bay, or selected Kolocep routes.
The Elafiti Islands add car-free villages, clear coves, Kolocep's Blue Cave, Lopud's sandy Sunj Beach, and Sipan's slower rural character. May to June and September to October offer the best overall balance of warm weather, active boat schedules, and less intense heat. Divers and snorkelers usually prefer June to September. This is not a liveaboard destination: plan around a Dubrovnik base, licensed local operators, day boats, and Jadrolinija ferries.
