Overview

Atlantic lava reefs, angel sharks, and wild beaches on the wind-sculpted Canary Island

Fuerteventura is a year-round, land-based dive destination where Atlantic clarity meets volcanic topography. Corralejo gives quick day-boat access to Isla de Lobos and the Bajon del Rio channel, Caleta de Fuste offers sheltered training reefs and winter angel-shark chances, and Morro Jable opens the southern walls of Veril Grande, Veril Chico, and El Canon. The island is also a strong mixed-trip choice: snorkelers get calm Lobos coves and El Cotillo lagoons, freedivers train with SSI and AIDA schools, and non-divers can fill days with dunes, cheese villages, stargazing, surf beaches, and wild Cofete landscapes. The main planning variable is wind. September to November is the easiest all-round window, while summer can still dive well but is more exposed to trade-wind chop.

What Makes It Special

  • Year-round Atlantic diving

Dive centers operate through the year, with route choices adjusted for wind, swell, tide, and certification level.

  • Three practical dive bases

Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste, and Morro Jable each unlock a different mix of reefs, logistics, and non-diver activities.

  • Angel-shark potential

Winter and early spring add a special conservation-focused wildlife angle on sandy volcanic sites.

  • Strong mixed-trip appeal

Snorkeling lagoons, freedive schools, dunes, surf beaches, historic villages, and stargazing make the island easy for non-divers.

Best time to go

September to November

Warmest practical water around 22°C to 24°C, often lighter winds than midsummer, good visibility, and easy mixedtrip planning.
