Cold-water granite reefs, historic wrecks, and island-blue Atlantic light
Overview
Southern Brittany rewards divers who want variety rather than a single resort reef. Concarneau Bay supplies sheltered training water and local wrecks, while the Glenan Islands, about 18 km offshore, add granite walls, maerl beds, eelgrass, clear-water plateaux, and the signature Pietro Orseolo cargo wreck. Farther east, Quiberon mixes shallow maze-like reefs around Teviec and An Auter with wrecks descending to roughly 38 m. The trip is land-based: use local clubs and commercial centers for day boats, then split the week between Concarneau and Quiberon. April to October is the practical operating season, with June to September the easiest period for warmest water, fuller schedules, snorkeling, and island excursions. Conditions remain Atlantic and changeable, so tides, wind, current, thermal protection, and last-minute site swaps are central to planning.
Concarneau Bay, the offshore Glenan archipelago, and Quiberon create a real progression from sheltered training sites to tide-exposed reefs, walls, and wrecks.
Local and offshore wrecks range from intermediate depths around 20 m to advanced profiles near 38 m, with deeper Glenan options for suitably qualified teams.

Kelp, maerl, eelgrass, anemones, sponges, gorgonians, nudibranchs, conger eels, lobsters, octopus, and shoaling fish reward slow observation and macro photography.
The normal trip uses local centers, clubs, and day boats. Multiple mainland bases provide fallback sites when wind or tide changes the offshore plan.
