About Tackle Box

Tackle Box is a boat-access canyon site off Ambergris Caye with steep grooves, vertical walls, caverns, and tunnel-like passages cut through a coral ridge. It suits guided scuba divers who want a more exploratory route than a flat reef, with mooring-buoy access, clear water, and rich reef life around the outer walls and ledges. The site is popular because it combines easy boat logistics with dramatic topography, macro nooks, and frequent sightings of sharks, rays, turtles, jacks, and larger grouper.

Dangerous wildlifeOverhead environmentSharp coral

Safety Notes

Cavern and tunnel sections can create overhead situations; keep within training limits, stay with the guide, and avoid coral contact. Sharks and rays may be present, so maintain normal wildlife distance.

Access Restrictions

Boat access only; tunnel and cavern sections should be dived on a guided route.

Legal Notes

Follow the operator briefing and local reef etiquette for overhead terrain and mooring-buoy use.

Local Intel For Tackle Box

Community notes to help plan your visit.

Scuba

Guided boat dive with canyons, caverns, and tunnel mouths over coral ridges; better for divers comfortable with overhead terrain.

Freedive

Not a freedive-first site because the main draw is the tunnel and cavern terrain below the surface.

Snorkel

Not a snorkel-first site; the main features sit on and under the reef edge rather than in a shallow surface route.

This was awesome, lots of nurse sharks and 4-5 reef sharks and even a family of dolphins. Interesting layout of ravines and a smalls swim-through cave.
