Ceningan Wall
Boat-entry channel wall with strong, shifting currents.
About Ceningan Wall
Ceningan Wall is a versatile dive site located along the channel between Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan, characterized by a steep reef that drops into deeper water and is shaped by consistent water movement through the strait. The site can be divided into two distinct sections depending on current direction. From the central entry point in Ceningan, currents may carry divers north along a more continuous wall, or south toward an area of smaller terraces and stepped formations that create a more varied profile. The wall itself features a mix of soft coral and rocky substrate, with better coral development in the upper sections and more exposed structure at depth. Currents are a defining factor and can vary in strength and direction depending on tidal movement. Dives are typically conducted as controlled drifts, with careful planning required to match the chosen route (north or south) to prevailing conditions.

Ceningan Wall Planning Details
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
10m - 40m
Depth Note
For divers certified to deeper limits, it can be a good zone to observe passing pelagic species and experience the full effect of the channel dynamics. However, depth and current combined require good buoyancy control and awareness of positioning along the wall.
Best Season
April to October is usually the most comfortable window.
Typical Conditions
When well timed, the site offers a smooth and enjoyable drift; however, changing currents require attention and make the site more suitable for divers with some experience in current diving. Whirlpools may occur.
