Boat dive on Tavolara's fish-rich Papa 2 shoal.
Boat dive on Tavolara's fish-rich Papa 2 shoal.
Marine park access and the buoyed layout make a local authorized operator the normal way to dive it.
Tavolara - Secca del Papa 2 is the deeper half of the famous Papa shoal off Punta del Papa, split from Papa 1 by a sandy channel and marked by its own mooring buoy. The dive moves across coralligenous ridges, hollows, and blue-water edges that hold large groupers, snappers, and other passing fish. It is a boat dive inside the marine park and is normally done with an authorized local center, so plan it as an advanced, guided outing.

Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Advanced certification is the practical floor. Keep buoyancy tight on the pinnacles, watch gas and depth carefully, and treat the exposed channel as a place where flow can build.
Access Restrictions
Diving is limited to authorized diving centers.
Legal Notes
Zone B marine park rules apply, and the site is managed through buoyed access reserved to approved dive boats.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Guided boat dives work best, moving slowly across the pinnacles, hollows, and blue-water edges. Stable buoyancy pays off more than speed.
Freediving
Not a practical freedive target; the site is structured for guided scuba boat dives rather than breath-hold touring.
Snorkeling
Not a snorkel-first site. The main interest sits below the surface and is best appreciated on a scuba boat.
