A whale-shark hotspot in South Ari Atoll.
A whale-shark hotspot in South Ari Atoll.
Maamigili Beyru is a whale-shark reef at the southern end of South Ari Atoll. The site is boat accessed and starts as a sloping outer reef before turning into a steeper wall, so it feels more like a big-animal reef than a relaxed house reef. Whale sharks are the headline draw, but the reef also sees rays, turtles, sharks, and plenty of schooling fish along the edge. It suits divers who are comfortable with boat logistics, current awareness, and keeping a careful eye on surface traffic.
