About Anemone Reef
Anemone Reef, known locally as Hin Jom, is a submerged limestone pinnacle between Phuket and Phi Phi with dense anemone fields, soft coral, and a mix of small critters and schooling reef fish. It is usually run as a boat dive that circles the pinnacle on a line or controlled descent, so the site rewards divers who are comfortable with changing current, weather, and open-water boat logistics.

Anemone Reef Planning Details
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
5m - 30m
Depth Note
The pinnacle top is only a few metres below the surface, while published guides put the main profile around 25-30m depending on how far off the pinnacle you follow the slope.
Best Season
Year-round, with dry-season trips usually preferred for calmer boats and better visibility.
Typical Conditions
Expect a current-exposed boat dive with fair-to-good visibility and day-to-day variability between calm circuits and more demanding current windows.
Safety & Access At Anemone Reef
Site conditions, restrictions, and access requirements.
Site Conditions
Boat trafficStrong current
Safety Notes
Keep buoyancy tight over the reef, use the line or guide briefing for descent and ascent, and do not fight the current or drift away from the boat.
Access Restrictions
Boat access only. Operators may skip the site when weather or current makes the run poor, and anchoring right on the reef is not the normal setup.
Legal Notes
Protected reef dives in Thailand require a certified supervisor or assistant, a pre-dive law briefing, and no contact with coral or marine life.
Local Intel For Anemone Reef
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Most operators treat Anemone Reef as a boat dive that starts on the shallow side and works around the pinnacle. A controlled descent and a tight reef profile make the dive easier to enjoy.
Freediving
Treat freedive use as unsupported unless a local operator explicitly offers current-aware freedive conditions.
Snorkeling
Not a default snorkel site. The main structure sits several metres below the surface, so snorkeling is only a marginal use case on exceptionally calm days.
