About Macaxeira
This site sits at the far north of the island and reaches depths of around 40 m. A persistent current carries divers along a wall of collapsed rock before opening onto a plateau with abundant algae. Schools of fish are common, and the area is also known for an “eel garden”. Nurse sharks and lemon sharks are seen occasionally.
