SD Point, named after the local term for elementary school, is one of Nusa Penida’s most accessible dive sites, known for its exceptionally varied coral community and high density of reef life. The reef forms a wide shelf that gradually slopes down and runs parallel to the coastline, creating a simple and predictable dive profile that is easy to follow. While SD Point is known for drift diving, conditions are often suitable for relaxed dives. At many times during the day, the current is mild and allows for a smooth “lazy drift,” gently carrying divers along the reef with minimal effort. Although currents can occasionally become stronger, dives are carefully timed to take advantage of calmer periods, making the site approachable even for less experienced divers.

Slope
Best Season
Year-round; drift timing matters more than season.
Typical Conditions
Shelf-and-slope reef running parallel to the beach; current can occasionally be very strong. With proper timing and guidance, SD Point offers an excellent introduction to drift diving in Nusa Penida, combining ease of navigation, rich marine life, and the possibility of relaxed, flowing dives.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Plan dives around current strength and be prepared for occasional very strong current, especially during drift dives.
Access Restrictions
Boat access and current timing matter; stronger drifts should be avoided by newer divers.
Legal Notes
Follow local guide and current briefing.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Reef site suited to drift diving along a shelf-and-slope bottom parallel to the beach.
Freediving
Not a freedive-first site; the boat drift and current timing are easier to manage with scuba.
Snorkeling
Easy and quite attractive
