Sheltered shallow bay with kelp, sand, and easy exploration.
The Gardens is a sheltered Poor Knights bay built around kelp-covered boulders, sandy pockets, and a low wall broken by cracks and small archways. It is commonly used for easier first dives at the islands because the terrain stays shallow near the cliffs, offers plenty to look at without committing to long exposed routes, and often holds dense fish life among the weed beds and bowls farther out. Expect a slow-moving exploration dive focused on structure, juvenile fish, snapper, rays, and close-up critters rather than dramatic drop-offs.
