Turtle Bommie, Saxon Reef is a boat-access outer-reef bommie with coral-encrusted slopes, a sandy base, and an easy multi-level circuit around the structure. It suits relaxed reef dives more than a complicated route, and the ledges make it a strong night-dive choice. Turtles, reef fish, and nocturnal life are the main draw.
Conservative baseline from public research. No community dives logged yet.
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
5m - 18m
Depth Note
Upper bommie is around 5m; the structure drops to about 18m on deeper edges, with standard profiles circling the bommie.
Best Season
June to October dry season
Typical Conditions
Outer-reef boat dive with a shallow bommie profile, generally manageable current, and best visibility on calmer days.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Seasonal stingers are the main issue from November to May, and stinger suits are strongly recommended in summer. Watch for stonefish, lionfish, fire coral, and titan triggerfish, and keep good buoyancy around the bommie.
Access Restrictions
Boat access only; there is no shore entry. Day boats use a mooring-line descent and ascent, so this is not a casual walk-in site.
Legal Notes
Turtles are protected, so do not chase, touch, feed, or block their path. Keep to no-take and no-touch GBR rules.
