Marsa Shouna is a sheltered Red Sea bay with reef structure on the north and south sides and seagrass in the center. It works as an easy check-dive or relaxed reef day because the bay offers simple profiles, good turtle and dugong chances, and enough room to move between reef edge and sand without committing to a long swim. Boat and zodiac drop-offs are common, and shore entry depends on crossing the reef flats.

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
1m - 40m
Depth Note
Shallow reef-flat entry and seagrass beds start near the surface; reported working depths run from a few meters to about 40 m across the bay.
Best Season
Year-round; March-May and September-November are the most comfortable windows.
Typical Conditions
Mostly sheltered bay with reef-flat shore entry, calm northern water, a healthier southern reef, and occasional weak south-setting flow on the outer reef.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
The site is accessed by daily boats and sometimes by Zodiac; use appropriate surface signaling and take care around boat activity.
Access Restrictions
No beach entry; shore access requires a reef-flat crossing. Parts of the bay are managed as no-ship areas to protect dugongs.
Legal Notes
Respect local mooring and vessel restrictions, and keep clear of dugong habitat and marked closure areas.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Relaxed check-dive and reef-exploration ground with sandy patches, coral rocks, and easy profiles that suit slower bottom time and careful route choice.
Freediving
Best in the sheltered bay and seagrass zones on calm days; keep breath-hold sessions conservative near moorings and reef edges.
Snorkeling
Good snorkel water in calm conditions, especially along the sheltered northern reef and the seagrass beds in the middle of the bay.
